Welcome to the homepage of the GNOME translation team for Ido. Ido is a constructed language similar to, but in our opinion superior to, Esperanto.
Ido is a great universal/second language. It's easy to learn (for Westerners anyway), and makes learning more languages even easier. It's very regular and consistent.
And what better way to learn it than by immersion? Running an Ido-translated GNOME will reinforce common words and grammar.
Currently all translations are only in GNOME SVN. You will need to download and compile it, using maybe garnome or jhbuild.
Once you have done so, because Ido isn't commonly a free software supported language, you will have to create the locale and generate it. Here are instructions for Ubuntu, which are probably similar for other environments.
Next time you log in, change your session language to Ido. And you're ready to go!
I am the project maintainer.
To report bugs in our translation or to help out, please contact us. We currently are more comfortable with English in the mailing list, but that's changing as we learn more Ido!
You may find the project dictionary of uncommon/unofficial/specialized words useful.
