The Big Hit Review

I guess I have this thing for Mark Wahlberg. Not many people seem to share this fascination, so take my opinion on The Big Hit with a grain of salt.

With that reservation, The Big Hit has been a long-standing favorite of mine because of its over-the-top (but not too over-the-top) action and characters. In particular, I like the chemistry between Wahlberg and Lou Diamond Phillips.

So, the movie is kind of absurd and seems to make the mistake of taking itself seriously. Which, I think, is why most people dislike it. But I prefer to think that the movie is just being deadpan. It is kind of stupid, but it’s also funny enough to get away with it.

The Trace-Buster-Buster-Buster still gets me. Also, it features Marky Mark!

  1. Yeah this movie was great. Lou Diamond Phillips was crazy and very funny. I don’t think the movie takes itself that seriously at all. I mean it’s an action-comedy, Mikix!

  2. Yeah, but it gives no indication that the action isn’t ridiculous. It laughs, but it never laughs at itself (as a much more dedicated spoof would — like Top Secret!).

  3. So when you say it takes itself seriously you mean it’s not a complete spoof? I just disagree then. I don’t think it was a mistake that it wasn’t a spoof. You haven’t seen enough HK action.
