I am somewhat careless in manner and speech, and I like it. Let me try to explain why.
I am right with Mark Twain on this one: “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” Being careless keeps me honest, provides a certain transparency. I don’t necessarily mean thoughtless or accidental. This sort of carelessness is a cultivated naïveté and a quickness of speech. Of course, it also leads to me marbling my words or acting like a goober.
Yet, I think it helps me come across as genuine, or at least not cunning. And to the extent that I have this trait, I am. It prevents manipulating or contriving social situations and induces reacting honestly.
I don’t have a point here. Carelessness is good, I guess. Try it.
