Pen Sinkhole

So I’ve been kind of monitoring the Someday notebook I made. It’s definitely shaping up awesome, but I’m kind of tired of the pen being stolen.

I originally attached a pen via string to the metal binding. It got stolen within a day. So I went and bought several more pens (with the expectation that they would continue to be stolen). I replaced it, it was stolen within a day. I replaced it a second time and it was stolen within a day.

Sigh. I’m going out later today to replace it another time. But damn it, people. The pen I use has to be special — the clip should have a gap in it so I can thread and knot the string. The pens I’ve been buying are $5 a pop. I can’t keep this up forever as I’m neither made of pens nor money.

Does anyone have a good alternative ideas for tying a pen to the notebook? I’d like to keep replacing it if possible, as it seems like there is more notebook activity in those fractions of a day.

I mean sure, most people have pens or pencils anyway; people will just throw pencils at you for no good reason! But it would make me happy to imagine myself giving the poor downtrodden penless masses a voice. Ideally they’ll be able to share what it is like to not have pens while simultaneously not stealing mine.

Who’s stealing these anyway? Who needs pens that badly? I figure eventually I’ll saturate the market with pens and problem solved. Unless the store from which I buy them is stealing them back. Bastards.

Update: I think the notebook got stolen. :(
Update (Mar. 16): I was mistaken. I have confirmed its presence, though it is missing some pages (notably my introduction).
