WSOP Followup

I wanted to followup on GNOME’s Women’s Summer Outreach Program. After GNOME received an enormous influx of submissions — 100 — Google offered to match the Foundation’s money and pay for an additional 3 students.

I think my favorite selected project is an Evince plugin for Mozilla, but the geek in my also likes the GtkMathView MathML editor.

Everything seems to be going swimmingly. The WSOP participants have their own planet and GNOME Journal just did a feature on the women and how they are getting along.

I’d really like to see their continued involvement (and have them graduate to the regular planet). I should think that having a healthy community of women within a larger one is a sort of chicken-and-egg problem. If this program has broken the ice wrt women in the GNOME community, it was well worth it.
