OK, guys. Here’s the deal with ties. All these how-to-tie-a-tie sites, of which there are many, all seem to have the same instructions. Which means they are either all right or all lazy. I am here to tell you that they are certainly not 100% right.
I tried to follow their advice with not much success. Until, that is, I discovered a secret. These sites all tell you to start off with the wide end down about twice as far as the small end. It works way better if you have the wide end further down. Only leave yourself as much of the small end as you need. That way, the pieces of tie are smaller, easier to work with, and don’t get in the way of your finesse. When you are done, you can just pull the small end lower to tighten the tie.
Anyway, that’s what I found worked for me. Until next time, on Mike Discovers Things Very Late!
